主,我在聆聽
I am all ears, Lord!
畫這幅畫時,我想像撒母耳先知童年時在夜深聽見神呼喚的情境,當時他未認識耶和華,從未聽過神的聲音。聆聽者抱著靜默、認真、敬畏、謙卑、單純、受教和新奇的心細聽,這想必也是我們聆聽神的話時需備的。
I think of the time when God called prophet Samuel by his name for the first time late at night. He was a child and did not yet know the Lord. I imagine his humble, innocent and teachable attitude he displayed with curiosity and quietness as he listened attentively to what God had to say to him. They are the qualities we aim to have as we listen to the Lord.
life is busy and everyone has their own responsibilities and worries to bear. But it is vital for us to make time intentionally for the Lord, our Father and closest friend. It is desirable to pray and read God’s word quietly in our room, but if it cannot be done alone, you may consider reading and praying during your commute. For me, I make time with God alone by reading the Bible and praying during my sleepless nights.
「聽話」這詞很有趣,意思是把話聽了進去,進入心扉,並帶出行動。媽媽常重複這句:「聽了不要只回應『是』,還要行出來!」神在洩氣的以利亞面前經過,有列風、地震與火,神以微聲跟以利亞說話,堅固他軟弱、失望的心靈,告訴他解決辦法,指引他下一步如何作。以利亞的回應是立即去辦。 (王上19)
I learned that in Hebrew, "Shema" refers to more than just "listen", but also to take heed. Listen and obey go hand and hand. Interestingly, it is the same in Chinese language. Growing up my mom used to ask me to "tan-wah", meaning listen and obey, and not merely to answer her with a yes. God spoke to Elijah with a "gentle whisper" after He appeared before him with strong wind, an earthquake and fire. God strengthened Elijah, who was then feeling defeated and weak, with His word, a solution and instructions for Elijah to follow. And Elijah’s response? He went and got it done according to His word. (1 King 19)
所以我了解到,聆聽主聲音是1. 首先打開心扉,培養好習慣,隨時預備聆聽。2. 順服聽話,相信祂是為我們好的,讓神的話改變我們的行為。
Therefore, listening to God is 1. develop a habit to listen to the Lord anytime with an open heart. 2. Listen and obey, believing that He is good, and let His word drive our actions.
